Do not get into the trick! Scammers distribute Trojans under the guise of a new version of Telegram

Krympress reports:

Fraudsters began to distribute fake versions of Telegram on the network with supposedly expanded functionality. Having installed the “messenger with superpowers”, the user launches the Trojan program on his gadget. During the day, such applications can collect up to 6 GB of logs, which are then used by attackers for illegal purposes.

The promises that a certain modified version of Telegram will allow us to hack other people’s correspondence or provide access to allegedly hidden functions is a classic example of conditionally “too good to be true,” says Anton Nemkin, a member of the State Duma Committee on Information Technology and Communications, the Federal Coordinator of the Digital Russia party project.

In fact, such opportunities are technically impossible without access to Telegram servers, which means that any such proposals are pure deception. The distribution of such fake applications is associated with the introduction of Trojan programs that can significantly harm your device. Such programs are able to intercept personal data, including logins and passwords, bank details, correspondence and even manage the victim device remotely. If the user provides such applications with advanced access rights, for example, to SMS messages or contacts, this opens up to attackers a wide range of opportunities for fraudulent operations— warned the deputy.

The most reliable protection against such attacks is compliance with the basic rules of cybersecurity.

Applications should be installed exclusively from official sources. It is important to regularly update applications and operating systems, as updates often contain vulnerabilities. In addition, the use of antivirus software and refusal to provide the application of suspicious permits can significantly reduce risks. And of course, it is critical not to succumb to tempting promises to gain access to non -existent opportunities — this is almost always a trap— notes the parliamentarian.
