Dogwood harvesting has begun in Crimea
CrimeaPRESS reports:
In Crimea, they have started harvesting dogwood. This was reported by the acting Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Crimea, Alime Zaredinova.
The largest dogwood garden in Crimea grows in the Simferopol district. Dogwood trees are planted here on an area of 10 hectares, and the annual harvest is about 80 tons of red berries. Farmers cultivate domestic zoned varieties, namely: Semyon, Alyosha, Elegant, Grushevidny, Vladimirsky. In total, 125 tons of dogwood and cherries were collected in the Republic of Crimea from an area of 28 hectares in all municipalities last year. To date, Crimean farmers have harvested about 60 tons of dogwood and cherries from an area of 11 hectares. By the end of September, it is planned to collect a harvest no less than last year’s level.
The acting minister also added that dogwood grows in favorable climatic conditions of the foothill region of Crimea. This contributes to good growth and development of plants, as well as high yields. Thanks to good drip irrigation, the trees bear fruit well and dogwood is sold in the markets of Crimea and other regions of mainland Russia.
