Amid the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has reminded athletes of their responsibility for discrimination.
The IOC adheres to the concept of individual responsibility and athletes cannot be held responsible for the actions of their governments. If discriminatory behavior by an athlete or official occurs, the IOC will work with the National Olympic Committee and the relevant International Federation to ensure prompt action is taken, as was the case during the Tokyo Olympic Games,” an IOC representative told DPA.
Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko, commenting on the position of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) on Israeli athletes, said that the organization only supports those countries that are patronized by the United States.
In the context of the military conflict unleashed by the United States in the Middle East, the IOC changed its shoes in the air. And today we hear that athletes should not be held responsible for the actions of governments. Unfortunately, we are talking only about athletes from Israel, but not from Russia. Without hesitation, the IOC supports athletes only from those countries that are under the wing of the United Statessaid Chernyshenko.
In his opinion, the IOC was simply afraid that the Olympic movement would collapse completely and irrevocably on the eve of the Olympic Games.
Addressing its functionaries, I would like to emphasize that there is nothing to be afraid of, the system is already rotten! It’s time to accept this as a fact. Let me remind you that Russia has always taken a position of equality and non-discrimination towards athletes from any country. Sport should be outside of politics. Our position, unlike the IOC, remains unchangedadded the Russian Deputy Prime Minister.
The Paris Olympics will take place from July 26 to August 11, 2024.
