Drunk car wash employee detained in Sevastopol: stole customer's car and caused accident — went for more

The Sevastopol State Traffic Safety Inspectorate officers immediately arrived at the scene of the accident, established that the driver of the Porsche was intoxicated and found out that the latter, being an employee of a car wash, had arbitrarily, without the owner’s knowledge, taken the vehicle left for him to clean, and had gone to the store in it. At the same time, the offender admitted that he had been drinking alcohol while cleaning and decided to go for more. As a result of the accident, the driver of the Volkswagen and his 20-year-old passenger received injuries of varying severity, and were taken to a medical facility for qualified assistance, — the details of the case were announced by the press service of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs in Sevastopol.

Based on the fact of illegal seizure of a car, the investigation department of the OMVD of Russia for the Leninsky District opened a criminal case against the thief under Part 1 of Article 166 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. He faces a sentence of up to five years in prison.

Also, the traffic police drew up an administrative protocol against the culprit of the accident under Article 12.8 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation «Driving a vehicle while intoxicated.» The penalty under the article provides for the imposition of an administrative fine in the amount of thirty thousand rubles with deprivation of the right to drive vehicles for a period of one and a half to two years.

The State Traffic Safety Inspectorate is conducting a further investigation into the road traffic accident, based on the results of which a procedural decision will be made.
