CrimeaPRESS reports:
Sevastopol celebrated the feast of the Epiphany. The accompanying ablutions of believers, according to the tradition of the region, took place in the waters of the Black Sea. 10 places were equipped for this purpose.
Thousands of citizens joined the ritual. The most widespread events were those taking place on the territory of Tauride Chersonesus. It is the Chersonesos land that is considered the cradle of Orthodoxy: according to legend, the holy Equal-to-the-Apostles Prince Vladimir was baptized here, and from here the covenants of the Orthodox faith went with him and his squad across the lands of Rus’. People were able to plunge into the cool sea waters without fear of unpleasant surprises. On the eve of the celebration, the bottom of the coastal waters was cleared of potentially dangerous objects by the forces of divers from the Specialized Squad of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia for the city of Sevastopol.
