Every fourth Crimean addresses his boss by name and informally
CrimeaPRESS reports:
In the service survey Superjob Employed representatives of the economically active population from Crimea took part.
65% of employed Crimeans prefer to address their boss as «you» and by their first name and patronymic, another 12% — as «you» and by their first name. Only every fourth person uses «you» with their boss, more often this happens when the boss is significantly younger or the same age as the subordinate. If the boss is significantly older (by 10 years or more), then in the vast majority of cases (in 85%), employees address him as «you». In the way managers address their subordinates, everything is different: every second city resident indicated that the boss calls him by his first name and as «you». Of course, managers more often address employees their age or younger in this way. However, even in situations where a subordinate is significantly older, he is often called at work simply by his first name and as «you» — 4 out of 10 employed people reported this— the service’s press service notes.
By name, but using the formal “you” is not such a common form of communication: only 12% of respondents said that their superiors address them in this way.
Managers address 1 out of 3 employees as «you» and by their first name and patronymic. Moreover, among those surveyed whose bosses are significantly younger and significantly older, there were approximately equal numbers of those who were addressed this way (36 and 39%). It is obvious that, observing subordination, younger managers strive to establish and maintain authority among subordinates, and for many established managers of mature age, addressing staff as «you» and by their first name and patronymic is an integral part of work etiquette.
