Every fourth resident of Crimea is ready to hand over biometrics to buy alcohol or tobacco
CrimeaPRESS reports:
Perhaps soon it will be possible to buy alcohol and cigarettes in supermarkets using biometrics: this will make it easier for cashiers to determine the age of the buyer. Today, 25% of Crimean residents are ready to submit biometric data for buying alcohol, and 26% for buying cigarettes. Consumers of tobacco and/or alcohol from Crimea took part in the survey of the SuperJob service for finding highly paid jobs.
Large retail chains turned to the Ministry of Digital Transformation with a request to organize the possibility of using biometric data to confirm the age of buyers of alcohol and tobacco. However, only every fourth inhabitant of Crimea (25%) agrees to hand over their biometric data in order to buy alcohol without taking out a passport, while 63% oppose. Those who are ready to submit biometrics explain their decision not only by convenience, but also by the fact that such a measure will help prevent the sale of alcohol to minors. Opponents say they are unsure about the security of storing biometric data— noted in the press service of the service.
Citizens are ready to give biometrics for the sake of buying tobacco a little more often (26%). 54% of respondents are against. Women agree to provide their biometric data for the purchase of cigarettes more often than men (30% versus 25%).
