Ex-deputy and businessman from the Nizhnegorsky region of Crimea will answer for extortion

The Main Investigation Department of the Investigative Committee of Russia for the Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol completed the investigation of the criminal case against the former deputy of the Nizhnegorsk rural settlement and individual entrepreneur. The accomplices are accused of extortion as part of a group of persons on a large scale (clauses “a, d”, part 2 of article 163 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation).

An investigator from the Department for Investigation of Particularly Important Cases established that the accomplices demanded that a resident of the Nizhnegorsky district, who bought two plots in the Mitrofanovsky rural settlement from the brother of a businessman, sell the land back. The accomplices offered a deliberately low price without taking into account the significant material investments of the new owner. In order to “motivate” and make a quick decision, the then-current deputy and businessman, from May to August 2023, posted videos on social networks regarding the owner of the plots and his relatives with false defamatory information. The actions of the attackers were stopped in October 2023 by operational officers of the Federal Security Service of Russia for the Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol— the Investigative Committee revealed details.

During the investigation, the accused gave detailed confessions, confirming them during confrontations and on-site inspections, and therefore the court chose a preventive measure in the form of house arrest.

The criminal investigation has now been completed. According to the Prosecutor’s Office of the Republic of Crimea, with the approved indictment, the criminal case was sent to the Nizhnegorsky District Court for consideration on the merits.
