Ex-employees of the Sevastopol traffic police will appear in court on charges of malfeasance

Former Sevastopol traffic police officers will appear in court on charges of corruption and official crimes. According to the press service of the regional department of the Investigative Committee, a criminal investigation has been completed against two former inspectors of the road patrol service and a former inspector of the group for the implementation of administrative legislation of a separate traffic police battalion of the State Traffic Safety Inspectorate of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs for the city of Sevastopol. They are accused of group extortion and receiving bribes in a significant amount, insurance fraud and abuse of power (clauses “a”, “b”, part 5 of article 290, part 3 of article 159.5, part 1 of article 285 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation).
The investigative department for the Gagarinsky district found that at the end of 2022, the police officers operating at that time received bribes in the amount of 30 to 40 thousand rubles for not bringing to justice drivers who committed an accident and fled the scene of the accident. In addition, one of the defendants, having staged an accident involving a personal vehicle, prepared documents, giving them the appearance of legality using his official position. Based on false documents submitted to the insurance company in January 2024, the employee illegally received 400 thousand rubles under a compulsory insurance contract.noted the Investigative Committee.
The criminal activities of the defendants were identified and suppressed by the security service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the city of Sevastopol in cooperation with colleagues from the republican FSB Directorate.
At present, the criminal investigation has been completed, all necessary investigative actions have been completed. The preliminary investigation body assessed the actions of the bribers and took measures to compensate for the damage caused. With the indictment approved by the prosecutor’s office, the criminal case was sent to court.
