Excursions with «open restoration»: a new offer from the Museum of Defense of Sevastopol

For the first time in the Crimea and Sevastopol, excursions with «open restoration» will be organized. It is reported by Tourist Portal of Crimea. Guests and residents of the hero-city will have the opportunity to look into the restoration behind the scenes from February 9th. The Museum of Defense of Sevastopol came up with a unique proposal.
You can see and learn the details of the work of restorers who bring priceless creations back to life on a tour of the Diorama «Assault on Sapun Mountain on May 7 1944». In real time, visitors will watch the painstaking work of specialists from the All-Russian Artistic Research and Restoration Center named after Academician I.E. Grabar, who restore a painting about the legendary military operation.
The restorers will show the visitors what materials they use to bring images and landscapes back to life, as well as show part of the renovated exposition of the small hall, supplemented by modern multimedia equipment. A fascinating journey into the heroic history of the city will begin from the viewing platform of the Sapun Mountain memorial complex, from where you can see the former arena of fierce battles.
Next along the route is the lobby of the Diorama with a small exposition. It will introduce the tourists to the history of the creation of the building and its authors. After the guests are waiting for the main location — the observation deck of the restored diorama, where the guide will tell about the heroes and events depicted on one of the main relics of Sevastopol. The final point will be the Obelisk of Glory, where the names of the Heroes of the Soviet Union who liberated Sevastopol in the 1944 year are immortalized on granite slabs, the museum said.
The organizers of the project inform that the number of exclusive visits to the museum is limited.
