Expert opinion: what is happening in the Russian auto parts market

The President of the Russian Union of Insurers (RSA), Evgeny Ufimtsev, said that since June 19, new directories of the average cost of spare parts, materials and standard hours of work have been in force, in accordance with which payments for OSAGO are calculated. According to the PCA, the average cost of spare parts in the updated version increased by 0.9% compared to the prices in the reference books dated March 19. Evgeny Ufimtsev notes that the new directories remained, on average, at the level of March 2023, however, there are exceptions to the general trend.

If in the previous version there was a reduction in prices for almost all brands, then in the new version this is not the case: for Mercedes-Benz, Land Rover, Lexus, Infiniti there is an increase of 12-14%, for VAZ, Kia, Hyundai, Volkswagen, Renault — decrease by 3-7%he said.

Autoexpert, partner of the analytical agency «AUTOSTAT» Igor Morzharetto agrees that there are brands of cars for which the issues of availability of spare parts are almost 90% resolved, but problems also remain for a number of other automakers. According to him, “the biggest problems are with premium German cars, as well as British ones. Where companies have left Russia and practically stopped deliveries of spare parts, the necessary components go through gray imports, through parallel imports, and this is long and expensive.”

In addition, there are problems with some new models that have never been sold in Russia before, and today they also come mainly under parallel imports.

This applies, first of all, to German and new Chinese brands of little-known but interesting cars. Since companies are just emerging, there are a number of difficulties of their own.Morzharetto said. — For example, there are companies that do not come out as representative offices, as we are used to, not as an official distributor, but as a dealer who takes on partial duties of a distributor. Before buying a car now, you need to understand for yourself how seriously the manufacturing company has taken root here, and how seriously the issues have been resolved, first of all, supplies, including auto parts. Because now there are a lot of complaints about this issue, including new Chinese brands.

In turn, the President of the PCA draws attention to the fact that “the stabilization of prices for spare parts, which we fix for a number of items, generally affects the OSAGO tariff: during the first four months of this year, the average price of a “car citizen” policy is constantly decreasing.” This is confirmed by statistics. If at the beginning of the year the average price of an OSAGO policy was 8,037 rubles, then in March it dropped to 7,826 rubles, and in April it amounted to 7,341 rubles.

Thus, since the beginning of the year, due to the beginning of stabilization in the spare parts market and increased competition between insurance companies for break-even car owners, the average premium for OSAGO has decreased by almost 10%.— concludes Evgeny Ufimtsev.
