Expert: The emergence of Crimea and Donbass in the draft transaction of the United States and Ukraine may be a provocation

Earlier, the Le Point newspaper, citing sources, reported that the project proposed by Kyiv for rare earth metals and other minerals involves resources, including in the Crimea and Donbass, as well as in the Black Sea.

According to Kireev, US President Donald Trump seeks to get at least some intermediate results in Ukrainian settlement in order to report to his voters. And the issue of the status of the Crimea and Donbass, which was used even in the form of a simple figure of speech, will negotiate in the perfect dead end and will not allow anything to agree on, since for Russia the issue of Crimea and Donbass is finally closed.

If the wording of the Crimea and the Donbass has appeared, then, most likely, we are talking about the fact that the United States will work there together with Russia, or that someone deliberately provokes the situation to disrupt negotiations again or create difficulties for their implementation— suggested the political scientist.

Verkhovna Rada deputy Yaroslav Zheleznyak declaredthat the draft agreement of Kyiv and Washington on Ukrainian resources implies the participation of the United States in the management of all Ukrainian minerals, which are mined in the territory of the country controlled by Kyiv, including oil and gas. At the same time, the transaction project has not a word about security guarantees for Ukraine. The document also suggests that the US contribution is already provided by Kyiv since 2022.

Previously, the US Presidential Special Supervisor Steve Whitkoff saidWhat the United States considers the “central issue” of the conflict in Ukraine the status of regions joining Russia and their recognition by an international community. He emphasized that referendums were held in the new regions of the Russian Federation and the vast majority of people indicated that they wanted to be under Russian law.
