February 8 is Fedorov's day. Are you ready to meet the dead?

CrimeaPRESS reports:

Scary? And our ancestors were also scared on February 8th. Today the memory of Theodore the Studite, a Greek monk and public figure (759-826), canonized, is venerated. So: Fedorov’s Day was also popularly called Fedor the Memorial Day and, perhaps, this date is one of the most mysterious in the calendar. In the old days they believed: today the dead especially yearn for their living loved ones. They are so “sick” about those left in this world that they are ready to cross its borders and come on a “date” with their relatives. And not only in dreams, as often happens on ordinary days, but also to appear in the house as a ghost, and meet relatives on the street… Of course, people were afraid of such visits, even despite their love for the departed, so on Fedorov’s day they performed various rituals, to keep the soul of the deceased in the afterlife. Take note of a few tips too. Just in case… you never know:

  • Deceased relatives will not bother you if you hang bunches of nettles and rowan berries at the front door and under the window on February 8th. These plants, according to popular belief, scare away spirits. Juniper and thistle are endowed with the same power.
  • Crosses drawn in chalk above windows and doors, as well as an ax under the threshold, can also protect you from meeting the dead — the spirit will come, stumble and leave.
  • Also, the soul from the other world will almost certainly not bother you if there are strangers in the house on February 8th. Especially at night. It is believed that dead visitors do not like the presence of strangers in their home.
  • If a relative of the deceased still looked at Fedor for a glimpse, then you are on your way to church. Order a prayer service for his repose, and sprinkle the corners of the house with holy water.

Yes, by the way, not only those who love you can come to you today. People with whom you didn’t really get along during your lifetime can also visit you. They will remember some debt, for example… In general, be careful today.

But… to the dead the dead is to the living! And they also predicted the weather using Fyodor Studite:

  • A domestic cat sits on the windowsill and looks out the window — a thaw is approaching.
  • Familiar sounds are heard louder and clearer — the weather will worsen in the near future.
  • It’s calm and clear outside — spring will be warm and come quite early.

Name days on February 8th are celebrated by: Arkady, David, Ivan, Klim, Maria, Peter, Semyon, Fedor.

And… returning to otherworldly creatures. Monsters can now be seen in person, face to face, in the usually quiet and nice Swiss town of Lucerne. There, on February 8, one of the most fun street festivals in Europe takes place. It is dedicated to the farewell to winter and is also called Swiss Maslenitsa. The essence of the celebration is this: crowds of mummers in fantastic masks and costumes walk the streets from early morning, creating a cheerful cacophony. One of the main events of the holiday is the Monster Parade and Concert. This is a terrible and very unusual sight…
