February 9 is Chrysostom Day. Let's eat pizza!
CrimeaPRESS reports:
On Chrysostom Day, it was customary for people to pray for increased intelligence, help in spiritual development, and well-being in family relationships. People addressed their prayers to John Chrysostom, a Greek priest who influenced the formation of Christianity and its development in Rus’. On February 9, the memory of this saint, who is also known as the intercessor of people in despair, is honored.
And on Chrysostom Day it is customary to remember loved ones and prepare so-called ritual dishes: open pies with a variety of fillings.
As for weather signs on February 9, there are few of them, but there are many everyday ones:
- The snow lies in mounds in the field — expect a good harvest.
- Low sky — cold weather is likely to come.
- Clouds move quickly in the direction of the wind — there will be no snow. If they move against the wind, it means snowfall.
- A thaw does not guarantee the approach of spring — most likely, on the contrary, there will be frosts.
- The windows in the house are fogged up — wait for the cold.
- A dazzling white moon — for cold weather, a reddish one — for the wind.
- Getting burned, tripping and cutting yourself is a bad omen.
- You cannot receive or give gifts on this day — this is a disaster.
- It was believed that on February 9 the worst hexes and slander were committed.
- Washing your hair on Chrysostom is a bad omen.
We’re also eating pizza today! Necessarily! Why? Because we are celebrating the birthday of this — one of the most popular — dishes in the world. How many “knocked”? And no one knows for sure, but obviously for more than a dozen years. The first pizzeria, Antica Pizzeria Port`Alba, was opened in Naples in 1830 — and it is still in business!
Who should you definitely treat with pizza? Of course, the birthday people are on February 9th — and these are Dmitry, Ivan and Peter!
