Festival «Citizens' Theatre»: Sevastopol residents and guests of the city are invited to the closing

In Sevastopol, a large-scale cultural project is coming to an end — the Citizens’ Theater Festival, implemented with the support of the ANO Center for the Formation of Civic Culture and the Presidential Fund for Cultural Initiatives. Over the course of a month, the organizers of the event invited residents and guests of the city to performances that were held at several locations, including Theater Street in the center of Sevastopol, Aivazovsky Street, 5, at SevGU and the Tsarskaya Pristan business center. In total, 16 performances for children and adults were shown during this time, in which the townspeople, as well as independent theaters from Sevastopol and various cities of Crimea — Simferopol, Evpatoria and Yalta took part.

As project manager Natalya Slepchenko noted, the Theater of Citizens fully justified its name. In total, the organizers received more than 70 applications from the residents of Sevastopol, who wished to participate in the performances. As a result, according to the results of the selection, 30 people studied in three theatrical laboratories. Upon completion of their studies, they presented performances in the City Theater format – Theater for Development, Plastic Theatre, and Storytelling Theatre.

These performances were the most attended— said Natalya Slepchenko. — In general, we relied on the interest of Sevastopol residents in a new modern theater format. And summing up the results of the festival, we see that those spectators who did not even reach the theater before are now its inspired fans.

Natalya Slepchenko also said that the participants of the laboratories had become so involved in the theatrical environment that they had come up with their own projects. In September and October, the ideas of novice artists will be realized, and they themselves will go on tour in the Crimea. A few more people, having mastered the methodology of the «Citizens’ Theatre», decided to make their own projects in Sevastopol: they already have creative teams for this.

In the meantime, another bright event awaits us ahead — the closing ceremony of the Citizens’ Theater Festival. It will be held on Wednesday, August 30, at 19:00, on Teatralnaya Street at ul. Aivazovsky, 5. The program includes summing up the results of the festival, awarding participants and winners of the project, a concert and a party.
