Figured it out like a neighbor. In Sevastopol, a fight “for a just cause” turned into a criminal case

CrimeaPRESS reports:

In Sevastopol, the local police commissioner detained a suspect of intentionally causing harm to the health of his neighbor. As reported by the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the duty department of police station No. 1 “Severnoye” received a message from a medical institution that a victim with numerous head injuries, including fractures, had turned to them for help.

The police established that early in the morning, a 59-year-old local resident noticed how an unknown person was taking his bicycle away from the territory of his household. The man was not taken aback and called out to the uninvited visitor, after which he abandoned the vehicle and ran away. In the morning twilight, it seemed to the owner of the bicycle that the would-be thief was very similar to his 46-year-old acquaintance living on the next street. He went to visit him to discuss what happened and find out the motives. However, the neighbor categorically denied his participation in the attempted theft, and on this basis a conflict arose between the men. When the verbal arguments ended, the angry guest struck his acquaintance more than three times in the face and left. After the incident, the victim’s wife called an ambulance— said the Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the city of Sevastopol.

The local police officer detained the suspect. He admitted his guilt, repented and said that after the incident he realized that due to poor visibility he had made a mistake, mistaking the attacker for a neighbor. A criminal case has been initiated against the detainee under Part 1 of Art. 112 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“Intentional infliction of moderate harm to health”), he faces up to three years in prison.
