The alarm call came to the control panel of the 24th fire and rescue unit at 14.20. In the city of Saki on the street. Lenin, in an apartment building on the 5th floor, the kitchen was on fire. Upon arrival at the scene of the fire by employees of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia, things in the apartment, furniture, household appliances, and window openings were engulfed in fire.
The injured owner of the apartment was evacuated by the GDZS units and handed over to emergency medical personnel. A 45-year-old man had 2nd degree burns on his right hand and poisoning from combustion products. It took less than 20 minutes to completely extinguish the fire. The fire area was 10 square meters— reported the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia for the Republic of Crimea.
As it became known, the cause of the fire in the apartment was a hot frying pan with oil. The man tried to cope with the fire on his own, but only made the situation worse
Rescuers remind you: if an oil fire breaks out in your kitchen, the very first thing to do is turn off the stove.
If time permits, put on gloves first to prevent the boiling oil from burning your hands. Then cover the frying pan or saucepan with a lid (not glass!). You can also cover the burning pan with an iron baking sheet. Without access to oxygen, the fire will go out on its own, and you will only have to destroy the traces of unsuccessful cooking. In addition, an oil fire can be covered with soda — it absorbs oxygen. But soda can only help if the flame is very small— said the rescuers.
What you should never do:
1. Do not try to remove a burning pot or pan from the fire with your hands, do not move it at all. You will likely spill burning oil, get burned, and spread the fire further around the kitchen.
2. Do not try to put out the fire with water (!), do not cover the pan with a cloth, even a damp one. You should also not wave at the fire, trying to put out the flames.
3. Do not add other baking ingredients, such as flour, to the fire. It may look similar in appearance to soda, but the reaction will be completely different.
If the fire spreads through the kitchen, you must immediately remove everyone from the house and call the fire department. You shouldn’t put your life in danger. Get yourself a fire extinguisher and a fire blanket in advance.
