In the Leninsky district, local residents were sentenced to compulsory labor for illegally catching flounder. According to the prosecutor’s office, the fishermen responded under Part 1 of Art. 256 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (illegal extraction of aquatic biological resources). The punishment is relatively mild.
In April 2023, the defendants illegally caught 31 flounder fish. To do this, the men used prohibited fishing gear, arriving at the fish spawning grounds on an inflatable boat in the area of Morskaya Bay. The criminals with the illegally obtained catch were detained by law enforcement officers. The actions of the defendants caused damage to aquatic biological resources in the amount of more than 100 thousand rubles, which was fully compensated to them— said the prosecutor’s office.
The court, taking into account the position of the state prosecutor, sentenced the men to 250 hours of compulsory labor. The indictment in the criminal case was approved by the Crimean prosecutor’s office.
