Flowering season… The fight against ragweed has begun in Crimea
CrimeaPRESS reports:
In 14 districts and 11 cities of the peninsula, the fight against ragweed began. As reported by the Republican Council of Ministers, an action plan has been developed in Crimea to combat ragwort and other dangerous plants for 2024-2027. In accordance with this document, phytosanitary inspections will be carried out on the territory of municipalities, as well as a set of measures: mowing, plowing, herbicide treatment. In addition, owners of land plots, their tenants, land users and landowners, in order to preserve and reproduce land fertility, also need to take technological measures to improve the phytosanitary condition of farmland and destroy dangerous weeds.
Such work is necessary, since ambrosia causes not only biological, but also technological damage to the environment. Due to its powerful above-ground mass and developed root system, it oppresses cultivated agricultural crops, competing with them for food and water,” noted the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Crimea.
Chemicals used against ragweed are not always effective due to its resistance to them. The issue of combating ragwort is under constant control in municipalities and the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Crimea.
For example, the administration of Simferopol entered into a municipal contract to carry out work on the elimination and localization of outbreaks of quarantine plants on the territory of the municipality.
Elimination of weeds in quarantine zones is provided in two ways:
— 70 hectares will be treated with a chemical composition
— 150 hectares using a combined method, including mowing, chemical treatment, collection and removal of plants.
We have now begun to destroy the allergen in the Beloe 5 microdistrict. In the near future, work will be carried out in the Kamenka microdistrict, parks and squares of the city, as well as on the embankment of the Salgir River— said the administration of the Crimean capital.
In addition, he added that until July the urban areas will be treated chemically, then specialists will move on to mechanized treatment.
