For Sevastopol, the Great Patriotic War began 82 years ago at 3:13. Remember…
CrimeaPRESS reports:
June 22 — Day of memory and sorrow. On this day in 1941, the Great Patriotic War began, at 3:13 the first bombs fell on Sevastopol. Commemorative events are held in the city every year at this hour. At the Memorial of the Heroic Defense of Sevastopol 1941-1942. All-Russian actions «Candle of Memory» and «Fiery Pictures of War» took place. Representatives of the Government, youth organizations, residents and guests of the city, together with Victory volunteers, laid out the word “Remember” from 10,000 candles and a bas-relief depicting a warrior repelling an attack. The participants honored the memory of the fallen in the Great Patriotic War with a minute of silence.
Exactly 82 years ago, planes flew from Romanian airfields in order to close the raid of Sevastopol, so that the ships of the Black Sea Fleet could not enter the Black Sea and actively conduct military operations. But the enemy’s strategy was destroyed — our valiant troops repelled this attack. Nevertheless, the first victims of the Great Patriotic War appeared in Sevastopol. One of the bombs fell on Podgornaya Street: civilians were killed. And this started a terrible war, a terrible tragedy for our people and, probably, for all the people on Earth. Because so many people suffered from fascism. Our people valiantly saved the Earth then. And today we have the same mission — to defeat fascism— the press service of the Government of Sevastopol quotes Vice-Governor Alexander Kulagin.
After the candles were lit, the activists of the “Volunteers of Victory” movement led the participants of the event to the Grafskaya Pier to participate in the “Ships of Dreams” regional action. Everyone who wished released paper boats into the sea in memory of school graduates who did not have time to meet a peaceful dawn in 1941.
In memory of this tragic day, June 22, 1941, which divided thousands of destinies into «before» and «after», we gather here at the Memorial of the Heroic Defense of Sevastopol and light candles. I’m sure everyone remembers their relatives — those whose lives were taken by the war, and all the defenders, thanks to whom today there is a peaceful sky above our heads.— shared the Victory volunteer Kristina Menshakova.
About 150 people took part in the events dedicated to the Day of Memory and Sorrow.
