For treason: in Crimea, a justice major was sentenced to 14 years in prison

According to the court, the previously convicted Crimean born in 1985 collected and transmitted information on behalf of a foreign intelligence service for use against the security of the Russian Federation. The court qualified his actions under Article 275 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (high treason) and Article 285 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (abuse of official powers by an official contrary to the interests of the service).
The Supreme Court of the Republic of Crimea found the defendant guilty of the crimes charged to him and, based on the totality of the crimes, by means of partial addition of the sentences, imposed a final sentence in the form of imprisonment for a term of 12 years and 6 months to be served in a strict regime penal colony, — the message says.
The press service clarified that the unserved portion of the sentence under the verdict of the Central District Court of Simferopol, issued in November 2023 in relation to the convicted person, was also added to the punishment, according to which he was found guilty of committing a crime under paragraph «c» of Part 3 of Article 222.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (illegal acquisition, transfer, sale, storage, transportation, shipment or carrying of explosive substances or explosive devices).
The final punishment for the aggregate of sentences was 14 years of imprisonment in a strict regime penal colony with a fine of 300 thousand rubles, with a restriction of freedom for one year and six months and with the deprivation of the right to hold positions in the civil service, in law enforcement agencies related to the exercise of the functions of a representative of the authorities, for a period of two years, as well as deprivation of the special rank of «major of justice»— the court explained.
