Four students from Sevastopol will stand trial for kidnapping an acquaintance and extorting money

The Main Investigation Department of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation for the Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol has completed a criminal investigation against four students of one of the Sevastopol universities. The investigating authorities accuse them of kidnapping a person by a group of persons by prior conspiracy for mercenary motives and extortion by a group of persons by prior conspiracy with the use of violence on a large scale (“a”, “h” part 2 of article 126, paragraph “a”, “ c», «d» part 2 of article 163 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation).

The investigative department for the Gagarinsky district established that on the night of March 13 of this year, young people aged 19-22 years old near a bookmaker’s office on Yuri Gagarin Avenue made an appointment with an acquaintance who allegedly owed them money. The accomplices demanded that 500 thousand rubles be transferred to them, setting a penalty of 10% of this amount for each week. The accomplices also forced the man, under death threats, to write a receipt for the existing debt.

Then the victim was forced into a car, driven around the city in the trunk of the car, systematically beaten. In the morning, the abducted man was brought to a microfinance organization so that he could take out a loan to repay the debt. The man managed to send his wife a message with geolocation, after which he was promptly released by police officers who arrived at the scene.— reported in Sledkom.

The perpetrators were detained. As part of the criminal case, all necessary investigative actions were carried out, as well as over 15 examinations confirming the involvement of young people in the crimes committed.

The criminal investigation has now been completed. The materials were sent to the prosecutor for the purpose of studying, signing the indictment and further sending the case to court for consideration on the merits.
