Fraudsters began to lure Russians renting housing in resorts
Krympress reports:
Cyberrsenniks place an advertisement for allegedly renting resort housing on YouTube and Tiktok, the company developer technologies for the fight against cybercrime F6 reported (reports TASS). Most often, you can find advertising about renting on the coasts of the Black and Baltic Seas.
Fraudsters offer to book housing on some “safe conditions”: without prepayment, through one of the popular services. The scheme uses copies of three different Russian services. Users of devices on iOS fall on a fake site, where they are offered to fill out the form for entering data of a bank card and code from SMS. Users of gadgets on Android, in turn, fall into the fake market of Google Play to download the malicious application that will intercept the data of their bank card and SMS.
The amount of damage is from 1 thousand to 140 thousand rubles. “Advertising for attackers are short videos on YouTubeshorts, Tiktok and Instagram (prohibited in the Russian Federation; belongs to META corporations recognized in the Russian Federation), and the amount of damage for users is limited only by the amount on the bank card account, — told in F6.
Cybercriminals adapt to users’ behavior, using attractive offers as a “bait” — in this case, rental of resort housing. They actively exploit confidence in visual content and formats that cause an emotional response, notes the member of the State Duma Committee on Information Policy, Information Technologies and Communications, the federal coordinator of the Digital Russia party project Anton Nemkin.
The peculiarity of this fraudulent campaign is a multi -level approach. Fraudsters differentiate the attack depending on the user’s device, which indicates a high degree of preparation and purposefulness of attacks. The use of copies of popular services enhances the confidence of the victims and increases the effectiveness of the scheme— he added.
It is important to note that attackers are trying to create the appearance of “security” — a rejection of prepayment, booking through allegedly known platforms. This is a psychological trick designed to reduce the alert of the user. However, even minimal interaction with such fake sites or applications can lead to a complete compromise of personal and financial data, Nemkin warned.
Users should be especially careful when booking housing through unverified sources. It is necessary to check the authenticity of sites, pay attention to the URL, as well as avoid transitions on advertising links in social networks. In addition, it is important to use antivirus software and, if possible, activate two -factor authentication on banking services. Only a comprehensive approach to security is able to protect against such threats— he concluded.
