From April 5 – capsule exhibition of artifacts from the Stone Tomb in Chersonesos

CrimeaPRESS reports:

On April 5, the capsule exhibition “Churingas — sacred objects of the spiritual world of ancient people” will open in the hall of the temporary exhibition hall of the Byzantine exposition. Its visitors will be able to see the creations of primitive artists, recreating images of snakes, birds, mammoths, rhinoceroses, cave lions, bison, bulls, fish and associated with totemic, magical, animistic ideas of the population of the Northern Azov region.

You will learn that churingas played an important role in the life of the ancients, representing something sacred, secret and hidden. People believed that the soul of a person, which constantly lives in the body and leaves it during sleep and death, moves to churinga. That is why every tribesman had this item and hid it in inaccessible places, under the supervision of elders and warriors. Similar storage facilities were located on the territory of the Stone Tomb in the Churing Grotto, in the Bison, Artemis, Goat, Sorcerer, and Horseshoe caves. About 300 sandstone churingas of various sizes and configurations dating back to the Late Paleolithic — Bronze Age were found there. This indicates the existence of a primitive form of religion among the nomads of the Azov region — animism, associated with ideas about the soul and its afterlife existence— note the press service of the Tauride Chersonese Museum-Reserve.

The special value of sacred objects — churing — is that they allow you to open a window into the unknown, but extremely interesting world of the tribes who lived in Eurasia during the Paleolithic — Bronze Age.
