From January 1, 2024, the fee for certification of a notarized power of attorney will be canceled for some Russians

On July 10, President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin signed a law according to which, from January 1, 2024, all citizens entitled to free legal assistance are exempted from paying state duty for notarization of a power of attorney to represent their interests in courts and state bodies as part of this assistance.

Passed law aims to further develop the provision of free legal assistance to citizens in need and provides additional benefits for free legal assistance when registering representation in courts, public bodies and organizations.

To date, the state fee for notarization of powers of attorney is 200 rubles. Disabled people of groups I and II, veterans of the Great Patriotic War, Heroes of Russia and the Soviet Union were exempted from it. At the same time, other categories of citizens also have the right to free legal assistance, in particular, Heroes of Socialist Labor and Heroes of Labor of the Russian Federation, poor citizens, disabled children, orphans, children left without parental care, adoptive parents. Also, the following persons have the right to use such assistance: elderly citizens and disabled people living in social service organizations; minors kept in institutions for the prevention of neglect and delinquency or in places of deprivation of liberty; citizens recognized by the court as incompetent or affected by emergency situations and other similar categories of citizens.

The above categories of people need powers of attorney to represent their interests in courts in order to protect their rights in court when providing free legal assistance.

The new law, which will come into force on January 1, 2024, will exempt all categories of persons entitled to free legal assistance from paying the state fee for notarizing such a power of attorney.
