“Gifts” from the Ukrainian Armed Forces: six submunitions were discovered and destroyed in the Sevastopol forest
CrimeaPRESS reports:
One of the fans of “silent hunting” reported a suspicious find in the Sevastopol forest to line “101”: while going for mushrooms, a citizen noticed a round metal object the size of a tennis ball in the foliage. Pyrotechnicians from the Specialized Detachment of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations for Sevastopol immediately moved to the indicated coordinates in the area of the Presidential Road. They have established that they are dealing with a Western submunition. Hundreds of these are contained in ballistic missiles with which the Ukrainian Armed Forces are trying to attack Hero City.
Experts undertook a thorough examination of the forest area. We walked around the surrounding areas with metal detectors in search of other unexploded elements. Over two days of engineering work, five more submunitions of the same type were discovered.
The submunition itself is dangerous because any mechanical impact on it—moving, carrying—detonates and breaks into small fragments. Damage radius is about 20 meters, – clarifies the deputy head of the Specialized detachment of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia for the city of Sevastopol, Arsen Smailov.
All six found samples of enemy weapons were destroyed by Russian Emergency Situations Ministry specialists right at the discovery site. 15 personnel and 5 pieces of equipment were involved. Work to survey the forest area continues.
Emergency department officials urge residents and guests of Sevastopol to remain vigilant. In the natural areas of the region, cases of discovery of explosive objects of modern design and from the times of the Great Patriotic War are possible. Rusted bombs and shells are clearly visible in landscapes, but submunitions are not always easy to see in grass and foliage due to their small size and khaki color. All suspicious findings must be reported immediately to 101 or 112. It is prohibited to touch them.
