“Good Old New Year”: an exhibition of Soviet Christmas tree decorations was presented in Yevpatoria

A traditional exhibition of Soviet Christmas tree decorations and New Year’s cards, “The Good Old New Year,” has opened at the Evpatoria Museum of Local Lore.
The exhibition includes more than 300 exhibits: Christmas tree decorations from the 1930s to 1980s, New Year cards from the 1960s to 1980s, newspapers, photographs of children’s parties of past years. The display cases contain toys and beads made of pressed cotton wool, embossed cardboard, and glass. All exhibits are divided into thematic sections dedicated to fairy-tale characters, space exploration and others. In the center of the hall there is a New Year’s tree, decorated with some retro toys. Below it are more than 20 figures of Father Frosts and Snow Maidens, made in the 1940s-1960s. In total, the museum’s collections contain more than 600 Christmas tree decorations and cards, which were collected during the “Give the Museum a Toy” campaign, which started in 2000.,” noted the press service of the Evpatoria administration.
The first visitors to the exhibition were students of cadet classes, as well as students of the Golden Age University, who donated their toys from the 1950s-60s, postcards and photographs with views of Evpatoria in the 1960s-70s to the museum.
