Grape nursery farming is actively developing in Crimea
CrimeaPRESS reports:
Grape nursery farming is actively developing in Crimea. This was reported by the acting Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Crimea Alime Zaredinova.
The Republic of Crimea is the region of the southernmost industrial viticulture in Russia. The year 2024 brought risky weather conditions to winegrowers, compared to 2023, mainly due to temperature fluctuations during the early spring vegetation of grapes, when abnormally high temperatures in the period March — April 2024 up to 30 degrees were replaced by a sharp drop in temperatures in May and subsequent frosts. In addition, high temperatures in June-July 2024, accompanied by a lack of precipitation, will ultimately slightly reduce the volume of the grape harvest. However, it should be noted that we will get a harvest of excellent quality— the press service quotes Alime Zaredinova.
According to Alime Zaredinova, Crimea is striving to import-substitute the production of grape planting material by planting virus-free mother plants.
At present, the total area of vineyards is over 20 thousand hectares in Crimea. This year, it is planned to increase the area of vineyards in all categories of farms to 21 thousand hectares. State support is provided in Crimea for the development of the viticulture industry and the nursery sub-sector. In 2024, more than 700 million rubles have been allocated to stimulate the development of viticulture and winemaking.— the acting minister said.
Alime Zaredinova emphasized that in order to ensure food security of the Russian Federation, the National Research Institute of Viticulture and Winemaking «Magarach» was provided with grants in the amount of about 7 million rubles in 2021 and 2023 to cover the costs of creating an elite mother plantation of rootstock grape vines and a mother plantation of rootstock grape vines of the «original» category on an area of about 13 hectares. These mother plants will allow obtaining 870 thousand purebred, high-quality cuttings, which will be used in the future to grow grape seedlings, and will also allow the creation of an elite mother plantation of rootstock grape vines.
