CrimeaPRESS reports:
In Sevastopol, the area of grape plantings has exceeded 75 square kilometers, of which a third are young vines. Viticulture and winemaking are among the main drivers of economic growth in the city. Grape harvesting has begun at enterprises, and although the bulk is traditionally collected in early September, 4 thousand tons have already been collected — a total of about 27 thousand are planned.
Today, we have about 30 enterprises harvesting grapes and the number of enterprises is growing from year to year. Due to the abnormal heat that has been observed since June throughout the South, the harvest began at the end of July, which is 2-3 weeks earlier than usual.— the press service of the Government of Sevastopol quotes the deputy director of the department of agriculture and consumer market Vasily Makoyed.
The fruitful vineyard of the young Sevastopol farm OOO Legado, with an area of 25 hectares, mainly grows Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, and Cabernet Franc from the red varieties, and Chardonnay and Riesling from the white ones.
Our project is dedicated to the study of regional terroir. Wine is always about terroir, land, and our task is to find the key to this land. We have already planted more than 30 different varieties of grapes, working with each variety separately. We use different agronomic techniques, from fertilizing to pruning, garters, and so on. All in order to obtain high-quality grapes. Specifically, today we are harvesting «muscats» — pink and «muscat blanc à petit grain». Both muscats are already at a very high degree of ripeness, and we will send the wine from this grape to be blended with other grapes that were harvested much earlier, – emphasizes the project’s oenologist Ivan Lipko.
Every year since 2018, the enterprise has received government support: for the maintenance of the vineyard, renewal and modernization of agricultural machinery.
We have already collected Gruner, Pinot Noir, we are planning to collect Blaufränkisch, Chardonnay. The harvest depends on the weather conditions, our season began in early August and will last until about October. I am doing an internship here, I want to become an agronomist — it is prestigious, it means feeding the country. I am from the village, I like farmingnotes student Maxim Karpenko.
Let us recall that in total 30 farms are engaged in grape harvesting in Sevastopol this year – this is four more than last year.
