During the operational search activities, criminal investigation officers of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs for the city of Kerch identified a 74-year-old Kerch resident suspected of illegal possession of explosives.
During a search of the suspect’s home, the police discovered and seized, according to the examination, a propellant — black powder weighing 504 grams; a rifle that is serviceable and suitable for shooting; a home-made cartridge that is suitable for firing a blank shot; The cartridge case and 28 primers, which are structural elements of the cartridges, are not suitable for firing a shot. The Kerchanin explained to the police that the substance found was hunting gunpowder, which he found in 1990 and kept for his own use, but the man had never been a hunter, — reported the press service of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs in Kerch.
Currently, the suspect has been chosen as a preventive measure in the form of a recognizance not to leave the place.
The Investigation Department of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs for the city of Kerch opened a criminal case on the grounds of a crime under Part 1 of Art. 222.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (illegal acquisition, transfer, sale, storage, transportation, forwarding or carrying of explosives or explosive devices). The suspect faces a maximum penalty of up to eight years in prison.
The investigation will have to find out all the circumstances surrounding the man’s possession of an explosive object.
