Harvesting of early ripening peach varieties has begun in Crimea. This was reported by the Acting Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Crimea. According to her information, this year farmers will have to harvest from an area of more than 1,200 hectares.
The Republic of Crimea is one of the leaders in peach production in Russia. According to operational data from municipal administrations, in 2023 (excluding households), more than 1.9 tons of peaches were harvested. This year’s plans are to collect no less than last year’s level. This year, gardeners from the Bakhchisarai region were the first to begin harvesting early varieties of peaches. The total area under perennial plantings in the Bakhchisarai region is about 1,400 hectares, of which more than 300 hectares are occupied by peach. In this area, 53 enterprises of different forms of ownership grow peaches.— commented Alime Zaredinova.
The acting minister also said that the most common varieties of peaches in Crimea are: “Golden Moscow”, “Golden Jubilee”, “Juicy”, “Veteran”, “Redhaven”, “White Swan”, “Yubileiny”, “Maremi” and «Kremlin» The republic’s enterprises will begin mass peach harvesting at the end of June. Harvesting of this crop is planned to be completed by mid-September. As for the harvest of stone fruit crops in general, the acting minister said that stone fruit gardens grow in all municipal districts of the Republic of Crimea.
According to statistics for 2023, the total area of stone fruit crops (cherry, cherry, dogwood, cherry plum, plum, apricot, peach) in all categories of farms amounted to more than 5,600 hectares, including about 3,700 hectares at fruiting age. The largest areas of these crops are located in the farms of the Dzhankoy district — about 600 hectares, the Bakhchisaray district — more than 600 hectares, and the Chernomorsky district — 380 hectares. In 2023, the gross harvest of stone fruit crops amounted to more than 6 tonsnoted the Acting Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Crimea.
Alime Zaredinova also reported that the state actively supports agricultural producers, offering assistance to both experienced and beginning farmers. The main goal is to ensure the financial stability of the agro-industrial complex. State support is provided in the form of subsidies for planting peaches, installing trellises and anti-hail netting.
