CrimeaPRESS reports:

A Simferopol resident was sentenced to 9 years in prison for a crime against public safety. And it’s not bad detective parody, but a real and instructive story. The Supreme Court of the Republic of Crimea left unchanged the court of first instance, which found a resident of Simferopol guilty of illegally acquiring and carrying explosive devices, committed using information and telecommunication networks, including the Internet.

According to the verdict of the court of first instance, a resident of Simferopol born in 1985. Using the coordinates previously given to him, he discovered a “cache” with an improvised explosive device in it. The cache was located in a park area of Simferopol. Following the instructions given by an unknown person via messenger, the convict removed a package with an explosive device and intended to take it to his home, but was detained by law enforcement officers. Thus, his criminal activities were stopped— said the Supreme Court.

At the court hearing, the convict partially admitted his guilt. According to his testimonyWell, he communicated via messenger with his old acquaintance, who maintains certain connections with representatives of the Ukrainian special services. It was from the same acquaintance that a man, unidentified by the investigation, called and passed on the coordinates of the “cache.”

Earlier, the court found a resident of Simferopol guilty of illegally purchasing and carrying explosive devices, committed using information and telecommunication networks, including the Internet. The court of first instance sentenced him to 9 years of imprisonment in a maximum security correctional colony with a fine of 300,000 rubles.

Having disagreed with the verdict, the convict and his defense attorney filed appeals, demanding that the actions of the convict be reclassified, that actively contributing to the detection and investigation of the crime be recognized as a mitigating circumstance, and that a suspended sentence be imposed as a result.
