Health care in Yalta: what flu vaccines are available for children

CrimeaPRESS reports:

Flu, experts say, is dangerous due to its complications, which can be fatal. They insist: it is necessary to protect children from this infection. «Ultrix Quadri» is a quadrivalent inactivated influenza vaccine. Why do doctors recommend it in the upcoming epidemic season?

Ultrix Quadri prevents diseases caused by influenza viruses type A and B. The composition of the immunobiological drug changes annually. The vaccine produced this year contains antigens of 4 influenza viruses, which, according to research by the World Health Organization, will be dangerous in the 2023-2024 season, namely: antigen of influenza virus type A (H1N1), influenza virus type A (H3N2), influenza virus type B (Yamagata lineage), influenza virus type B (Victoria lineage).

The vaccine is inactivated, that is, it does not contain live viruses, so it is impossible to get sick after vaccination and infect someone. Protective antibody levels are achieved within 7-10 days after vaccine administration. The effect of the vaccine lasts for a year.

Ultrix Quadri is recommended for use in children over 6 months of age, as well as adults with chronic diseases. Different protocols are used for different ages: children over 3 years old and adults receive 1 injection in a dosage of 0.5 ml, younger children from 6 months to 3 years receive 2 injections of 0.25 ml with an interval of at least 28 days.

Influenza immunoprophylaxis is not recommended for children under 6 months of age. Babies must be protected by maternal immunity, which is transmitted to them during intrauterine development. That is why it is very important for the expectant mother to get vaccinated in the 2-3 trimester of pregnancy (in other words, from 4 to 9 months of pregnancy). Then the baby will be born already protected from the flu and its severe complications.

Vaccination is not carried out for children with an allergic reaction to the components of the immunobiological drug. Patients with an acute form of an infectious disease or a chronic disease in the acute stage are not allowed to attend. If the patient has signs of an infectious disease, vaccination is not carried out: they return to it only after the temperature and health have normalized.

You can get permission to vaccinate your child with Ultrix by visiting a pediatrician. Before vaccination, the doctor will examine the child. If there are no contraindications, he will make a positive decision. For mild ARVI and acute intestinal diseases, vaccination can be carried out immediately after the temperature has returned to normal. Within half an hour after administration of the drug you need to be under the supervision of a doctor for observation.

The vaccine is well tolerated. But if there is slight soreness, redness and swelling of the skin at the injection site, and an increase in body temperature, then this is a sign of the body’s defenses working and the development of immunity. These manifestations are normal and are not dangerous to health or life. They appear in the first three days after children are vaccinated with Ultrix and disappear after 1 to 2 days.

This vaccine prevents illness caused by the influenza virus, but does not prevent upper respiratory tract infections caused by other pathogens, such as pneumococcus or meningococcus. «Ultrix Quadri» is a vaccine that is compatible with all types of both live and non-living vaccines. This allows you to vaccinate your child against the flu and any other infection at the same time in one visit.
