Helping people come into the world: Sevastopol midwives celebrate their professional holiday

CrimeaPRESS reports:

Every year on May 5, Russia and other countries around the world celebrate Midwife Day, a holiday dedicated to medical personnel who help doctors and patients during childbirth. On the eve of this day, a solemn event was held at City Hospital No. 5, where specialists were presented with certificates and letters of gratitude.

There are 112 midwives working in Sevastopol, of which 50 work in maternity hospital No. 2. Over the past year alone, they helped bring more than 3,400 babies into the world. Midwives not only deliver babies, but also often perform the functions of a pediatric nurse, an operating room nurse, a ward nurse, and sometimes act as a psychologist.

Your work has its own special atmosphere. You help new life and new happiness emerge. Women who decide to devote their lives to such a noble and wonderful cause as participating in the birth of a new person must have a certain strong character, but at the same time be sensitive, tactful and able to quickly make decisions and control the situation. Happy holiday, dear colleagues, – the press service of the Government of Sevastopol quotes First Deputy Director of the Department of Health Lyubov Semina. — Carrying out a difficult but very important mission, taking care of preserving the life and health of expectant mothers — this means being a midwife. These are the responsible people who work in our medicine.

Let us remember that the history of the holiday originates in the Netherlands, where at the conference of the International Association of Midwives in 1987, the idea of proclaiming International Day of the Midwife was proposed. This day acquired the status of an official holiday only in 1992. Today it is celebrated in more than 50 countries.
