Holidays passed: Christmas trees in Crimea are processed in mulch and hydrolya

CrimeaPRESS reports:

Mulch is essentially sawdust, but of a larger fraction. According to the head of the center for the development of environmental initiatives “Sowers” Sergei Buchin, it protects the soil from cold and excess moisture.

We will use this for crop production. We have a public nursery where we grow plants, so we will mulch the containers and open ground so that the plants grow better, — Buchin explained.

How does recycling work?

From half of the points of the “Yelkovorot” campaign, we collected about two hundred Christmas trees, we will process this today — we will get about eight “cubes” of raw materials, – says Sergei Buchin. — We separate the trees to a diameter that the crusher can process, this is about 10 centimeters, we cut off everything else, remove the knots and put them directly into the crusher and it does everything itself.

The most difficult thing, says Sergei, is to deliver the trees to the crushing site. This is the most economically unprofitable stage, since significant costs are spent on transport, he explained. These, according to him, caring people are engaged.

This action is entirely dependent on volunteers and socially responsible businesses who participate and help with transport. The Department of Municipal Affairs provides boats for removalBuchin said.

He noted that one of the goals of the action is to draw attention to the issue of tree recycling.

Where and how are recycled Christmas trees used?

According to Buchin, over the six years of the campaign, the Christmas trees were used in different ways — they collected firewood for the poor, and were also processed at an essential oil plant.

I think there are many more uses for it. The main thing is to find the economic feasibility of the processhe notes.

This particular batch of mulch will be used for plants that will be grown in a public nursery for free distribution, Sergei added.

Twice a year our organization distributes free plants — in spring and autumn. People reserve what they want in advance, pick it up, then keep a record of where they planted the plant and how it grows, — he said.

The nursery tries to grow and distribute the rarest plant species, says Sergei.

We have more than two hundred species here, among the rarest are evergreen sequoia, relict plants such as ginkgo biloba, bear nut, tree hazelhe listed.

In addition, in Simferopol, New Year trees are given a second “life” by processing them into hydrosols and essential oils.

Shredded coniferous trees can also be used as bedding in enclosures for animals, ecologist Alexander Khaburgaev previously reported. In addition, processed Christmas trees are consumed by sheep, goats, rabbits and other farmed animals.
