Hot Crimea — Expert Council: how to avoid thermal and sunny blow

Krympress reports:

In conditions of hot weather, there is a risk of a heat or sunny blow. This is especially true for children, pregnant women, elderly people, patients with various chronic diseases, as well as tourists who have arrived in the Crimea from the northern regions due to insufficient acclimatization to heat.

The thermal blow occurs with a general overheating of the body due to the high ambient temperature and the impossibility of effective thermoregulation due to dehydration, wearing cramped or non-hearing clothing, insufficient ventilation. Therefore, a thermal blow can occur even in the shade, in a poorly ventilated room, in transport.

The cause of a sunny blow is a prolonged effect of sunlight on an uncovered head. Direct solar radiation overheats the brain and its shell, disrupting blood circulation.

Symptoms of a solar and thermal blow are similar — it is a headache, dizziness, heart heartbeat and breathing, nausea and vomiting, ears, darkening into the eyes, confusion, disorientation, in severe cases — loss of consciousness, convulsions.

If you notice the signs of thermal or solar shock in yourself or others, you must immediately call an ambulance. Before the arrival of doctors, it is important to move the victim to a cool place, lay, raising their heads, provide access for fresh air, remove excess clothes and wipe the body with cool water, or apply cold compresses to the head, neck and armpit — these are zones where large vessels are located shallow. If a person is unconscious, then you do not need to try to drink it. You should stay close until the arrival of the ambulance team— said Olga Barilo, chief freelance therapist of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Crimea.

In order to prevent overheating of the body, the doctor recommends excluding the presence of direct sunlight, wear a headdress, sunglasses and light, bright, free clothes made of natural fabrics.

It is especially important to follow the drinking regime in hot times — use at least 2.5 — 3 liters of water per day. It is better to give preference to ordinary drinking water, unsweetened compotes and fruit drinks. It is also necessary to avoid the use of alcohol, carbonated drinks, caffeine, which contribute to dehydration— the specialist noted.

In addition, the main Crimean therapist recommends reducing activities of active physical exertion, if possible take a cool shower several times a day, minimize the use of decorative cosmetics, as well as abandon fatty, fried and spicy foods, which creates additional load on the body in conditions of heat.
