On Sunday, Orthodox Christians will celebrate a big holiday — the Resurrection of Christ. In conditions of a high (“yellow”) level of terrorist threat in Sevastopol, a large set of measures is being implemented to ensure security during the celebration.
On the night of May 4-5, Easter services will be held at 51 temples and 2 monasteries of Sevastopol.
Please note that St. Vladimir’s Cathedral in Chersonesos is closed for reconstruction, and no services will be held there. Currently, there is a temporary temple on the territory of the museum-reserve, the capacity of which is limited. In this regard, we recommend choosing a church located near your home to attend the Easter service.
For comfortable and safe passage of believers to the Vladimir Cathedral — the tomb of the admirals on Suvorov Street from house No. 6 to the intersection with Marata Street, restrictions on stopping and parking of vehicles will be introduced. Parking will not be permitted on either side of the road from 9:00 pm on May 4 until the end of the events.
In addition, for those wishing to attend Easter services, some public transport will operate until 6:00 on May 5. Trolleybuses No. 7, 9, 10, 12, as well as buses No. 3, 103, 62, 106 will continue to operate after 21:00 on May 4 until the end of the festive events. The interval of their movement will vary from 40 minutes to one hour.
To ensure security in places of worship, police officers, the district Cossack society, people’s vigilantes and the fire service will be on duty. Frame metal detectors will also be installed or inspection with a hand-held metal detector will be organized. Please be aware of safety measures and come to the service early to avoid crowding.
