I found a bank card, paid with it in stores, and ended up in prison. Case in Kerch
CrimeaPRESS reports:
We never tire of repeating it again and again: if you find someone else’s bank card, contact the police or the bank itself, or better yet… don’t touch it at all. This is ALIEN! And taking someone else’s property (property, money…) is already a crime. So in Kerch, a 35-year-old man thought that the found card was a “gift of fate,” but it turned out that it was a pass to the colony. The man was found guilty under paragraph “g” of Part 3 of Art. 158 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (theft committed from a bank account).
The court found that in the fall of 2023, the convict, being near the state budgetary healthcare institution of the Republic of Crimea “Kerch Hospital No. 1 named after. N.I. Pirogov,” found a bank card equipped with contactless payment technology on the asphalt. The man repeatedly paid with the card in stores, as a result of which he caused damage to the victim in the amount of about 14 thousand rubles— said the prosecutor’s office.
The court, taking into account the position of the state prosecutor, sentenced the perpetrator to imprisonment for a period of 1 year and 1 month. He will serve his sentence in a general regime correctional colony. The verdict did not enter into legal force.
