In Simferopol, the police received a statement from a 63-year-old local resident that an unfamiliar man secretly stole gold items belonging to him, causing damage in the amount of more than 100 thousand rubles. As it turned out, the suspect, being familiar with the victim, came to visit him. Having consumed alcohol together, he stayed overnight with a hospitable host. In the morning, taking advantage of the fact that the owner of the apartment was sleeping, he stole gold items from the chest of drawers and disappeared with the stolen goods.

As a result of operational-search activities, the criminal investigation department of police department No. 3 «Central» of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs for the city of Simferopol identified and detained a suspect. It turned out to be a 57-year-old local resident. He explained that he handed over all the stolen gold to a pawnshop, and spent the proceeds for his own needs. Law enforcement officers confiscated gold items in a pawnshop. A measure of restraint was chosen for the detainee — a written undertaking not to leave— reported in the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the Republic of Crimea.

According to part 2 of Art. 158 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“theft”) a criminal case was initiated. The sanction of the article provides for a maximum penalty of imprisonment for up to 5 years.
