Illegal activities of an extremist organization banned in Russia stopped in Crimea

In Crimea, the illegal activities of the local religious organization “Jehovah’s Witnesses “Sivash” banned by the court (the activities of the “Administrative Center of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Russia” were banned by the decision of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation) were stopped. As specified in the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the Republic of Crimea, the sectarians «dug in» in Dzhankoy and Dzhankoy district.
As a result of operational-search activities, employees of the Center for Combating Extremism of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the Republic of Crimea and the regional FSB, with the power support of the special forces of the Russian Guard, detained the head of an extremist organization, a 58-year-old resident of the city of Dzhankoy.
According to operational data, since 2021, the detainee has been taking active organizational actions aimed at continuing the illegal activities of a local religious organization that is part of the extremist organization “Religious Organization Administrative Center of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Russia” banned in Russia. At the propaganda meetings organized by him, which were held at the defendant’s place of residence, the followers studied and discussed the texts and religious provisions of the Jehovah’s Witnesses, distributed prohibited literature, proclaimed the exclusivity and superiority of the dogma of the Jehovah’s Witnesses over other traditional religions. Acting deliberately, as part of a group of persons, the defendant carried out managerial functions to ensure the activities of an extremist organization— reported in the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the Republic of Crimea.
The materials collected by the operatives were transferred to the investigating authorities for the adoption of a procedural decision in accordance with the law. Currently, police officers continue to identify and detain other persons involved in the illegal activities of a banned religious cell.
