Criminal investigation officers of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs for the city of Kerch detained a 74-year-old local resident as a result of operational investigative measures on suspicion of illegal possession of firearms and ammunition.

At the place of residence of the detainee, in a metal safe, cartridges were found and seized, as well as a sawed-off shotgun, for which the owner did not have the necessary documents. Experts confirmed that the weapons presented for examination were homemade. At the same time, the weapons and cartridges in the amount of 142 pieces are suitable for use. The elderly man explained that the entire arsenal once belonged to his father, who kept weapons to protect property in the 90s. The man knew that he needed to contact the police because he was storing the weapons and cartridges illegally.— the press service of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs in Crimea reported.

An investigator from the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs for the city of Kerch opened a criminal case on the grounds of a crime under Part 1 of Article 222 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (Illegal possession of firearms, their main parts and ammunition).

The article provides for a maximum penalty of imprisonment for up to 5 years with a fine of up to 80 thousand rubles.

The suspect was given a preventive measure in the form of a written undertaking not to leave town.

The police remind about criminal liability for the illegal acquisition, transfer, sale, storage, transportation or carrying of weapons, ammunition, explosives and explosive devices.

Illegally stored weapons, ammunition, explosives and explosive devices can be voluntarily surrendered to the police.
