In Chersonese Tauride — a free exhibition «The Beauty of Antique Glass, Timeless»
CrimeaPRESS reports:
When visiting the Antique Exposition of the Museum-Reserve, guests are always surprised by the grandeur of the artifacts presented there. You can learn more about objects that amaze the imagination not only with antiquity and fine workmanship, but also with excellent preservation, from June 30 to July 30 at the new capsule exhibition “The Beauty of Antique Glass, Timeless”. Opens in the small hall of the Antique Exposition this Friday!
At the exhibition you will be able to see glass kanthara, goblets, bowls, jugs, flasks and balsams, found during excavations of the Sovkhoz-10 (Sevastopolsky) burial ground. Once these items were part of ancient burials, but they have come down to us almost in their original form, because time turned out to have no power over them.
Such vessels are made using free blowing technique. It consisted in the fact that the master first collected the required amount of hot glass from the glass furnace to the end of the tube and rolled it out on a stone tile, and then supplied air inside. Thus, the object acquired the required shape, and the edge of the vessel and the handle were made separately. This method was invented in the first centuries of our era and immediately became widespread, as it allowed to increase production and expand the range of products. Glass items became available to all segments of the population. The blowing technique is also used in modern production: for the production of thin products, expensive dishes, figured plastics and Christmas tree decorations.
Come to Chersonese Tauride to get acquainted with glass vessels several thousand years old, to the exhibition «The Beauty of Antique Glass, Timeless».
You can see unique products in the small hall of the Antique Exposition of the Museum-Reserve from June 30 to July 30, 2023. Opening hours of the exhibition: daily from 9:00 to 19:00, Monday is a day off.
