In Crimea, 500 hectares of fruit crops were damaged due to lower temperatures
CrimeaPRESS reports:
Deputy Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Crimea Nikolai Tyutyunik visited enterprises of the Republic of Crimea that suffered as a result of frosts. He noted that in the Belogorsk region, damage to apple trees was recorded in the orchards of three enterprises, covering an area of 500 hectares, damage ranging from 30 to 90 percent.
In the urban district of Sudak, one enterprise was damaged, where damage amounted to about 30 percent of the fruit set. There are small local impacts of temperatures on perennial crops in the Bakhchisarai region — about 60 hectares of lavender and peaches were affected. Due to the small number of enterprises affected by freezing temperatures, a state of emergency was not introduced in agricultural areas of perennial plantings in the Republic.
In the current conditions, we are considering the issue of providing support to agricultural enterprises of the Republic of Crimea so that we can regulate those expected economic losses of enterprises that will result from crop shortages in specific enterprises. To be more precise, these are mainly farms in the Belogorsk region. The insurance mechanism in the Republic of Crimea has been operating for more than one year, there are a number of organizations that insure risks, and due to government support measures, it is possible to pay half the cost of the insurance policy, which allows the agricultural enterprise to save money, — said Nikolai Tyutyunik, Deputy Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Crimea.
According to the official, about 800 million rubles are allocated annually for the development of horticulture. In the Republic of Crimea, plantings of fruit and berry crops cover more than 15 thousand hectares; last year almost 197 thousand tons of crops were harvested. This year, due to the entry into fruiting of new young plantings, we expect that the total gross harvest in the Republic of Crimea should remain at the level of last 2023.
