CrimeaPRESS reports:
Members of the Red Guard cell of a banned religious organization have been sentenced in Crimea.
The evidence collected by the Main Investigation Department of the Investigative Committee of Russia for the Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol was recognized by the court as sufficient to convict two residents of the Krasnogvardeisky district. They were found guilty of organizing the activities of an extremist organization (Part 1 of Article 282.2 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation).
By the decision of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation dated April 20, 2017 and the appeal ruling of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation dated July 17, 2017, the religious organization “Administrative Center of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Russia” and the branches included in its structure were recognized as extremist and banned on the territory of the state.
The Department for Investigation of Particularly Important Cases established that from April 2017 to September 2022, the defendants continued to conduct the activities of a cell prohibited by the court in the village of Krasnogvardeyskoye. The 51-year-old man served as chairman and thought leader, while his 44-year-old colleague was actively involved in the organization. Together they coordinated the activities of adherents, held meetings of prohibited literature, speeches and discussions of religious literature, including through the Internet.— reported the Investigative Committee.
The criminal activities of the organizer of the Red Guard cell of a banned religious organization were suppressed by employees of the Russian FSB Directorate for the Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol and the Center for Countering Extremism of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs for the Republic of Crimea at the end of September 2022. His associate was detained in March of this year while trying to escape to the territory of another state.
By a court verdict, the accomplices were found guilty of the crimes charged and sentenced to 6 years in prison each in a correctional colony.
