In Crimea, various modern technologies for road repair and restoration work are used to repair roads (within the framework of the national project “Safe Quality Roads”). As reported by the Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Crimea, repair and restoration work of road pavement using the method cold recycling.

Cold recycling technology, for example, is carried out during the repair of the public highway of regional importance “Simferopol — Krasnoperekopsk — border with the Kherson region”, where in 2024 it is planned to repair 8 sections with a total length of more than 63 km.

Worn-out road surfaces, as well as repair work with inevitable congestion in heavy traffic areas, cause a lot of inconvenience to motorists. The time spent on repair work plays an important role for residents, especially in areas with high traffic congestion.

Recycling means «recycling», «reuse» and is a method of recycling asphalt pavement to be replaced. Recycling technology has proven itself well all over the world: it helps to protect the environment, since when using the recycling method, the consumption of primary resources is reduced and the amount of waste is reduced. In addition, the use of recycling technology significantly reduces the repair time of the roadway, which has a positive effect on social tension of the population.

Processing of asphalt concrete mixture is carried out directly at the construction site. The material does not leave the repair site and, after the necessary technological manipulations (adding stabilizing additives), is again laid on the road surface. With shallow recycling, the depth of impact is up to 10 cm, with deep recycling – up to 20-40 cm. Depending on the depth of impact on the road surface, the set of auxiliary special equipment varies. For example, in order to prepare asphalt in the mixing chamber of a machine using the cold method, water and bitumen are needed, which are supplied through connected hoses from special tank vehicles. Hot recycling requires heating elements, a reagent supply system and a binder solution— the Ministry of Transport of Crimea spoke about the technology.

In total, about 190 km of regional roads will be repaired in the Republic (within the framework of the national project “Safe Quality Roads”) in 2024, including 23 roads and 25 bridges and bridge structures.
