In Crimea, doctors performed a complex operation to correct flat feet in a child
CrimeaPRESS reports:
In Crimea, specialists of the traumatology and orthopedic department of the Republican Children’s Clinical Hospital performed a surgical treatment of flat feet in a teenager with osteotomy (correction) of the foot bones and their fixation with metal structures. Such operations in the department are carried out on a routine basis, the uniqueness of this operation is that for the first time a nickel-titanium implant was used as a metal structure.
Corrective osteotomy is an open surgical intervention to restore the anatomically correct position of the bones of the foot. That is, in order to correct the deformity, the bone is cut, aligned and fixed in the correct position with metal structures. We carry out hundreds of such surgeries every year. Now they began to use in their practice, including a nickel-titanium implant, which, due to its porous structure, integrates with bone tissue— explained the head of the department, chief freelance pediatric orthopedic traumatologist of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Crimea Konstantin Rybikov.
The period of rehabilitation after reconstructive plastic surgery on the foot is individual for each patient. After receiving positive results in the surgical treatment of the first foot, the next similar operation is performed to correct the deformity of the second foot. Treatment can improve the quality of life of young patients. Traumatologists-orthopedists of the Republican Children’s Clinical Hospital have extensive practical experience in performing such operations and continue to improve their professional skills.
