In Crimea, inflation is declining. Second month in a row

CrimeaPRESS reports:

In Crimea, annual inflation has been declining for the second month in a row: in September it slowed down to almost 14% after ,5% in August. Price dynamics in the region were affected by the increase in supply in the food markets and the restrained dynamics of consumer demand, as in the previous month.

The annual increase in food prices slowed down most significantly – by almost 3 percentage points, amounting to 14, 4%. A significant contribution to this dynamics was made by the change in prices for vegetables of the «borscht set», eggs and meat. Thus, due to the expansion of the supply of vegetables due to an increase in their supplies from neighboring regions and neighboring countries, the decline in prices for carrots, potatoes, cabbage and tomatoes accelerated, and onions fell in price. For the same reason, the price of pears fell, and the decline in prices for lemons, oranges and grapes accelerated. An additional impact was made by the lifting of the ban on the import of these fruits from a number of foreign countries , — note in the Branch for the Republic of Crimea of the Southern Main Department of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation.

Eggs became cheaper in September, their production in the region increased. Such dynamics has developed due to changes in the 2022 year of production conditions. A year ago, due to the increase in the price of imported grain, equipment, packaging and veterinary drugs, agricultural producers increased their costs, which led to a reduction in the number of laying hens and, accordingly, an increase in the price of eggs.

In September, livestock breeders also managed to increase the volume of domestic production, as a result of which the supply of beef, pork and poultry meat expanded, which affected the decrease in the annual growth rates of prices for these products. A good help for the Crimean enterprises was the reduction of feed costs — the volume of feed production increased and grain prices decreased. Government support measures to limit the export of the main feed component — soybeans and meal — and concessional lending to the industry also played their role.

At the start of the autumn season, smartphones fell in price in the region and the growth in prices for TVs, household stoves, refrigerators and cars of imported and domestic production slowed down. The main factor was the weakening of consumer demand for these goods, the secondary factors were the earlier strengthening of the ruble and the gradual establishment of a mechanism for parallel imports.

Also in September, prices for women’s and men’s haircuts grew faster than in August. This is explained by the increase in the costs of hairdressing salons for imported consumables due to the disruption of production and logistics chains.

According to the forecast of the Bank of Russia, annual inflation in the country will be -13% in 2022 year, and taking into account the current monetary policy, it will decrease to 5-7% in 2023 year and will return to 4% in 2024 year.
