In Crimea, the court toughened the punishment for the culprit of a fatal accident
CrimeaPRESS reports:
The Judicial Collegium for Criminal Cases of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Crimea considered on appeal a criminal case against a resident of the Razdolnensky district. He was found guilty under Part 5 of Art. 264 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (violation of traffic rules by a person driving a car, resulting in the death of two persons through negligence).
The court established that on July 18, 2022, the convict was driving a KAMAZ car and driving along the Razdolnoye — Simferopol highway. When making a left turn, the driver did not give way to an Opel Vectra car, causing a collision with it. As a result of a traffic accident, two passengers in a car died at the scene from their injuries.— reported the Crimean prosecutor’s office.
The Razdolnensky District Court sentenced the man to 2 years and 6 months of suspended imprisonment with a probationary period of 3 years. The prosecutor’s office did not agree with the verdict and appealed it to a higher authority.
Based on the results of consideration of the appeal, the court revoked the suspended sentence and sentenced the man to 2 years and 6 months of imprisonment in a penal colony (without probation). He was also disqualified from driving for 3 years. The verdict came into force.
