In Crimea, the police detained a “courier” of scammers who stole almost 1 million rubles from pensioners
CrimeaPRESS reports:
In Crimea, three elderly residents of Simferopol, aged 79 to 88, contacted the police with a report of fraud. The police found out that all the applicants had become victims of scammers operating under the scheme “Your relative was involved in an accident.”
Unidentified attackers, posing as law enforcement officers over the phone, convinced pensioners to transfer a total of 980 thousand rubles to the courier under the pretext of not bringing to justice their relatives who allegedly caused the accidents, or paying for treatment for the victims.
Police officers established that the same man came to all the victims for money — a previously unconvicted 32-year-old resident of the Leninsky district of the city of Kerch. As a result of operational search activities, detectives from the Criminal Investigation Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the Republic of Crimea, together with colleagues from the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs in Simferopol, detained a messenger of telephone scammers— reported the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Crimea.
A participant in the scheme to deceive citizens admitted that he found an offer for such work in one of the instant messengers, through which he later received the addresses of the victims. He transferred the stolen money to accounts specified by the employer, leaving himself 10% of each amount.
The Investigation Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the city of Simferopol has initiated criminal cases on all facts based on the crimes provided for in Part 2 and Part 3 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. The investigation is ongoing.
The police ask everyone who has suffered from the unlawful actions of the defendant to contact the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs in Simferopol at the address: Simferopol, Franko Boulevard, 44. Or call: +7 (3652) 773-110 or 102.
