In 1971, the submarine B-435 became part of the USSR Navy. During her service she completed 14 long-distance trips.
The Zaporozhye submarine went to Ukraine in 1997 during the division of the Black Sea Fleet of the USSR Navy. She was the only submarine in the Ukrainian Navy.
During the events of the “Crimean Spring”, most of the crew went over to the side of Russia. On March 22, St. Andrew’s flag was raised over the boat. Subsequently, the ship had a reduced crew on board to maintain its buoyancy. In 2019, the directorate of the Sevastopol Military Historical Museum of Fortifications announced their readiness to take away the submarine.
